The sacred science of Kriya Yoga consists of advanced techniques of meditation whose faithful practice leads to union with God and liberation of the soul from all kinds of slavery. It is the regal or supreme yoga technique, the divine union.

History of  Kriya Yoga

The enlightened sages of India discovered the spiritual science of Kriya Yoga in a remote past long forgotten. Lord Krishna praises her in the Bhagavad Gita and the sage Patanjali speaks of her in the Yoga Sutras. Paramahansa Yogananda said that this ancient method of meditation was also known by Jesus Christ and by some of his disciples, like Saint John, Saint Paul and others .

The Kriya Yoga meditation it was lost during the centuries of the dark ages and was introduced again in modern times by Mahavatar Babaji, one of whose disciples, Lahiri Mahasaya (1828-1895), was the first to teach it openly in our time. Later, Babaji asked a disciple of Lahiri Mahasaya, Swami Sri Yukteswar Giri (1855-1936), to prepare Paramahansa Yogananda and send him to the West to deliver the revealing technique of the soul to the world .

Paramaha nsa Yogananda was chosen by his venerable lineage of Gurus to bring to the West the ancient science of Kriya Yoga, and it was with this purpose that he founded Self-Realization Fellowship in 1920 .

Meditation techniques of the path of Kriya Yoga

Energy Exercises: a series of psychophysical exercises developed by Paramahansa Yogananda in 1916 prepare the body for meditation. By practicing them regularly, they provide physical and mental relaxation, and develop a dynamic willpower. Making use of the breath, the vital force and the concentrated attention, this technique allows to attract to the body abundant energy of conscious way, purifying and strengthening in it systematically, one after another, all its parts. The Energy Exercises, which take place in about fifteen minutes, are one of the most effective ways to eliminate stress and nervous tension. If they are practiced before meditation, they are of great help to enter the stillness, the internalized state of consciousness.

Meditation Technique of Om: it teaches us how to use the power of concentration in the highest way, that is, how to use it to discover and perfect the divine qualities of our true Self. It is an ancient method by which we learn to experiment the omnipresent Divine Presence like Om,the Word or Holy Spirit that underlies all creation and sustains it. This technique expands consciousness beyond the limitations of the body and the mind, allowing us to achieve the joyful realization of our infinite potential.

Technique Kriya: the Kriya is an advanced technique Raja Yoga of pranayama (control of vital energy) reinforcing and revitalizing the subtle currents of vital energy (prana) in the spine and brain. The ancient seers of India (rishis)They realized that the brain and the spine are the tree of life. Through the subtle cerebrospinal centers of life and consciousness (chakras) flows the energy that gives life to all the nerves, organs and tissues of the body. The yogis discovered that by continuously moving the current of life along the spine, up and down, by the special technique of Kriya Yoga, it is possible to greatly accelerate one’s spiritual evolution.

The correct practice of Kriya Yogait naturally leads to the normal activity of the heart, lungs and nervous system being carried out more slowly, which gives rise to a deep inner calm of the body and mind, and frees attention from the habitual turbulence of thoughts , emotions and sensory perceptions. In the clarity of that interior serenity, an ever deeper peace is experienced and one harmonizes with one’s own soul and with God.
