Kratom: What, Why And How

Nature is full of wondrous plants and herbs which have made us rich in medicines and treatments. Kratom or the Mitragyna Speciosa is a member of the coffee family (Rubiaceae plant) and is majorly grown in the South-Eastern Asia. Being the indigenous part of the plantation in Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar, Indonesia and even Papua New Guinea this plant has been used for developing medicines since ages now. The leaves of kratom which are about 7 inches wide and 9 inches long are known to have brain stimulant and opioid properties which makes it a beautiful herb to cure stress, depression, opioid withdrawal symptoms and more.

Chemical properties and ingredients

Kratom plant has leaves with ingredients which are of great chemical significance to help understand the effects they have. The key components of the leaves are:

         Mitragynine

         7-hydroxylmitragynine

         Mitraphylline

         Rhynchophylline

         Mitragynine pseudoindoxyl

All of the active ingredients are stimulants of certain opioid receptors and cause the major pain relieving and mood elevating properties of the plant. The lesser known ingredients like the raubasine, Corynoxein, Isospeciofolin, Mitrafolin, Speciofolin, Stipulatin etc. have certain properties which vary from strain to strain. While the active ingredients make for the active use of Kratom, it is the lesser known ingredients which make the leaf suitable for different kinds of treatments.

Effects of Kratom

Kratom is known to induce immunostimulant, anti-inflammatory, anti-stress and anti-depressant effect into humans. And thus, the compound has been used in many powdered, medicinal, ayurvedic and even vegetarian ways to consume for the people affected by stress, opioid withdrawal symptoms, depression, decreased sexual desire and more. When consumed in appropriate amounts the compound is known to cause euphoric effects within 10 minutes of consumption which makes one feel light and light headed. This also alleviates too much of thinking, stress, sadness, depression etc. while increasing potential happiness and feel good feelings.

Legality of the compound

Because of its euphoric effects and the potential to cause behavioral changes in humans, there are countries that have banned the commercial growth of the plant. The use of Kratom into regular consumption or sale through the leafy stocks has been banned too. Thailand has outlawed the consumption as well as the usage of the leaves of Kratom for the safety of unknown use.

While there are more and more researches being carried out to define the usage of the leaves and include it in more medicinal developments to cure a variety of diseases, a lot of countries don’t support the use of compounds which might cause behavioral changes in people!

How to use it?

Kratom is available in powdered, medicated as well as loose form for consumption. They can be used in any form of food to include in the diet the stress relieving compound. However, doctors advise not more than 4 grams of consumption per day for best effect. Users are also made to choose the train which they consume because different strains target different problems, the misuse of which can have side-effects like vomited, nausea and more.
